The prestigious person of the year award has been awarded to the president and vice president-elect jointly for this year. It was previously known as a man of the year but was changed when categories were expanded. Consequently, the award has featured many people some not so popular in its long history. Other categories now include businessperson of the year and athlete of the year. Now announcements for winners are done through a glittering TV event and millions of viewers get to see it first hand.
