Pamela Geller has announced that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio violated her First Amendment rights by temporarily banning public demonstrations.
Geller, the infamous far-right blogger and journalist, filed a lawsuit against de Blasio and Police Commissioner Dermot Shea on May 7th. She claims that the “draconian restrictions on liberty” imposed by them are not allowing her to protest the current pandemic lockdown, reports The New York Post. The suit also mentions that such protests could be held with proper social distancing in place.
According to Geller’s lawyer David Yerushalmi, the civil rights suit excludes Gov. Andrew Cuomo, since his “New York State on PAUSE” order states nothing about forbidding public protests specifically.
Geller is seeking nominal damages and attorney fees.
