Enormous flames erupted on May 23rd in a large San Francisco warehouse.

The fire started at Pier 45 at Fisherman’s Wharf and was almost ready to consume SS Jeremiah O’Brien, a historic World War II ship before the firefighters managed to successfully battle it. It is one of just two remaining fully functioning Liberty ships which stormed Normandy in the 1944 D-Day operation.

According to the San Francisco Fire Department, Saturday’s fire only caused some paint damage to the ship.

As the statement from the department reads, 150 firefighters had been called to the scene. No other ships were damaged and no human victims were reported. Three ferry and vessel services affected by the fire: blue and gold fleet offices, red and white fleet offices and Jeremiah O’Brien fleet offices.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
